Garrison Diversion Water Conference to Focus on RRVWSP

Posted: Sep 25 2017
The Garrison Diversion Conservancy District’s (Garrison Diversion) biennial conference is scheduled for November 7, 2017.  The one-day conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Fargo.  This year’s focus is the Red River Valley Water Supply Project (RRVWSP).

“The topic of drought relief is very timely, so I believe we will have more attendees at this conference than we have in previous years.  Formal invitations will be mailed out early this fall.  We appreciate timely RSVPs so we can plan meals and ensure we have enough conference materials on hand,” says Kimberly Cook, Garrison Diversion Communications Director.

Representatives from each of the 35 communities and rural water systems that committed to the development portion of the project are encouraged to attend.  “We hope everyone associated with Garrison Diversion, Lake Agassiz Water Authority, or the Red River Valley Water Supply Project will attend the conference.  It will be great to get everyone together to talk about this important initiative,” says Ken Royse, Garrison Diversion Chairman.

The conference agenda includes detailed sessions about the project’s need, benefits, schedule, and financial considerations.  Daryl Ritchison, Interim Director of the ND Agricultural Weather Network, will speak about the state’s ongoing drought threat.  Joel Heitkamp, host of KFGO’s News and Views, will broadcast live from the conference.  Heitkamp, a former rural water manager, will also host a panel discussion with high profile experts about the current state of water in North Dakota.
